Blues Edge Blackhawks 4-3 in Thrilling Overtime Win at Prospect Showcase

The Prospect Showcase kicked off on September 13th with an electrifying matchup between the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks at the Centene Community Ice Center. The home crowd was treated to a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory by the Blues, showcasing the talent and potential of the organization’s future stars.

Simon Robertsson, the Blues’ third-round pick from the 2021 Draft, sealed the win with a clutch goal just 2:19 into overtime. His game-winner capped off a competitive and fast-paced contest that saw Chicago relinquish three separate one-goal leads throughout the evening.

The Blues’ defensive prospects stood out in this game, with all three regulation goals coming from the blueline. Michael Buchinger, selected in the third round of the 2022 Draft, scored a highlight-reel goal in the first period to tie the game at 1-1. Lukas Fischer, a second-round pick in 2024, found the net early in the second period to equalize again after the Blackhawks took a 2-1 lead. Matthew Mayich, a sixth-round pick in 2023, added a go-ahead goal later in the period, sending the Blues into the third period with a 3-2 advantage.

Despite the strong showing from St. Louis, the Blackhawks managed to keep pace, tying the game with a shorthanded goal from Landon Slaggert in the second period. However, the Blues’ goaltender, Vadim Zherenko, stood tall under pressure, making 26 saves, including several key stops in the third period and overtime, to secure the win.
