Southeast Missouri Women’s Basketball Falls Short Against Morehead State, 64-61

Southeast Missouri (4-11, 2-4 OVC) narrowly missed a comeback in a 64-61 loss to Morehead State (7-9, 2-4 OVC) Saturday at the Show Me Center.

Da’Kariya Jackson led the Redhawks with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including an impressive 4-of-5 from three-point range. Despite strong efforts from Jackson and her teammates, SEMO’s struggles at the free throw line—shooting just 55.6%—proved costly.

SEMO grabbed 30 rebounds, with Briah Hampton recording a career-high 11, including eight on the defensive end. The Redhawks forced 17 turnovers and converted them into 20 points. Skylar Barnes and Jariyah Williamson led the defensive charge with three steals each.

Morehead State opened the game strong with a 7-0 run before Jackson put SEMO on the board. The Redhawks answered with an 8-0 run to take their first lead, but the Eagles closed the first quarter with a 10-0 surge, securing a 21-14 advantage.

SEMO found themselves trailing by 13 at halftime (37-24) after the Eagles capitalized on second-chance opportunities and strong offensive rebounding.

In the second half, SEMO mounted a comeback. Jackson and Barnes fueled the Redhawks with key baskets, and a three-pointer from Jackson tied the game at 48 early in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 58-51, the Redhawks went on a 7-0 run, with a clutch three from Zoe Best and two free throws by Lexi McCully giving SEMO a 59-58 lead with under two minutes remaining.

However, the Eagles regained the lead in the final moments, sealing the game with a pair of late baskets and free throws.
