Teddy Washington, Jr. delivered a stellar performance with a game-high 21 points, including 14 in the second half, to propel Southeast Missouri (17-10, 12-4) to an 83-69 victory over Tennessee Tech (13-14, 8-8) on Saturday at the Show Me Center. The win marked SEMO’s seventh straight, tying its longest winning streak since the 2004-05 season under former head coach Gary Garner.
The Redhawks also completed their first season sweep of Tennessee Tech since 1999-2000 and earned head coach Brad Korn his career-best 10th home victory.
Despite falling behind 8-2 early, SEMO responded with an 11-0 run, highlighted by Brendan Terry’s turnaround jumper and Washington’s smooth shooting. Two 3-pointers from Ward and Braxton Stacker extended the lead to 26-17, and SEMO closed the half with an 11-0 surge to take a 31-21 lead into the break—the fewest points allowed in a first half this season.
SEMO came out firing in the second half, making six of its first seven shots to build a 43-26 advantage just over three minutes in. Washington’s free throws extended the lead to 19, and SEMO never looked back. Stacker’s third triple and Elliot Lowndes’ basket underneath pushed the lead past 20, with Ward’s jumper giving SEMO its largest advantage at 68-41.
The Redhawks shot a blistering 75.9% in the second half, hitting 22-of-29 shots. Washington, Jr. went 8-of-19 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line for his fourth 20-point outing of the season. Martin added 17 points, marking his 12th consecutive double-digit game. Terry chipped in 15, Stacker scored 14, and Ward finished with 10.
SEMO, now leading the Ohio Valley Conference with 12 league wins, will host Western Illinois on Feb. 20 in front of what promises to be another enthusiastic home crowd.
