The St. Louis Cardinals announced this afternoon that they have reduced their Spring Training roster to 31 players, with 13 players moving to minor league camp as preparations for the upcoming season continue.
Following this afternoon’s game, the Cardinals optioned infielders Michael Helman and Thomas Saggese, along with outfielder Matt Koperniak, to the Memphis (AAA) roster.
Additionally, the team has reassigned several non-roster players to minor league camp. This group includes pitchers Michael Gomez and Andre Granillo, catchers Gavin Collins, Wade Stauss, Chance Sisco, and Yohel Pozo, infielders César Prieto and RJ Yeager, and outfielders Nathan Church and Ryan Vilade.
With these moves, the Cardinals’ Major League Spring Training camp now consists of 29 Major League roster players and two non-roster invitees. The roster trimming process signals that the team is honing in on its final lineup as Opening Day approaches.
The Cardinals will continue to evaluate their remaining players in camp as they prepare to field a competitive squad for the start of the season.
