With the 2025 NFL Draft less than a month away, speculation is running wild over the fate of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Once considered the surefire top quarterback prospect in a lukewarm class, Sanders’ stock now appears to be one of the biggest question marks in recent draft history.
Sanders, who played at Jackson State and Colorado under his Hall of Fame father, Deion Sanders, possesses the arm talent and accuracy NFL teams covet. He threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns last season, demonstrating an ability to excel in a pro-style offense under former NFL coach Pat Shurmur. However, despite his production and mechanics, lingering concerns about his leadership and attitude are beginning to overshadow his physical abilities.
Reports from the NFL Scouting Combine indicate that two teams felt Sanders “came off as unprofessional and disinterested,” raising questions about his dedication to the game. Furthermore, his flashy demeanor and strong focus on branding may rub some teams the wrong way, particularly those seeking a franchise quarterback with a team-first mentality. While some scouts remain high on Sanders, others worry that his priorities might not align with the demanding expectations of an NFL locker room.
Another troubling sign is his on-field decision-making under pressure. Sanders was sacked a staggering 95 times over the past two seasons, a number that cannot be solely blamed on Colorado’s offensive line. His tendency to hold the ball too long and invite pressure is a habit that could prove costly at the next level.
With the Giants at No. 3 showing interest and Miami’s Cam Ward also in the mix as a top quarterback prospect, the question remains: Will Sanders’ undeniable talent outweigh the concerns surrounding his intangibles? April 24 will provide the answer.
