Fredbird Flies Into the Mascot Hall of Fame as Part of 2025 Class

The National Mascot Hall of Fame has officially announced its Class of 2025, and soaring proudly among the inductees is none other than Fredbird, the St. Louis Cardinals’ beloved and energetic mascot since 1979. The big reveal came this morning on Good Morning America—appropriately timed on National Mascot Day—with Fredbird himself on hand to celebrate the occasion in true feathered fashion.

Fredbird earned his place among mascot royalty from a highly competitive pool of 28 nominees, carefully selected by the Mascot Hall of Fame Executive Committee. Over 125,000 votes were cast by fans during a two-week online voting period in May, a testament to the mascot’s enduring popularity and the passion of the Cardinals faithful.

With this honor, Fredbird becomes the ninth Major League Baseball mascot to be inducted into the prestigious Hall, joining an elite lineup that includes the Phillie Phanatic, Mr. Met, The Oriole Bird, Lou Seal, Orbit, Southpaw, Sluggerrr, and Slider.

Since his debut in 1979, Fredbird has become a cornerstone of the Cardinals experience. With over 3,600 regular-season appearances and seven World Series under his wings—including championship seasons in 1982, 2006, and 2011—Fredbird has become more than a mascot. He’s a symbol of Cardinals tradition and spirit. Off the field, he’s just as impactful, co-hosting the popular Cardinals Kids television show alongside broadcaster Brad Thompson on FanDuel Sports Network Midwest and appearing in countless community events and school visits across the region.

Fredbird’s latest honor adds to an already decorated career, which includes his 2018 induction into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame. His enshrinement in the National Mascot Hall of Fame solidifies his legacy not just in St. Louis but across the national sports landscape.

Founded in 2005 by David Raymond, the original Phillie Phanatic, the Mascot Hall of Fame recognizes the excellence and creativity behind North America’s most iconic mascot characters and programs. With Fredbird’s induction, the Hall has now enshrined 38 professional and collegiate mascots who have gone above and beyond to entertain, inspire, and connect with fans of all ages.
