For fans of chaotic, boundary-pushing heavy music, the end of an era is officially on the horizon.
The Dillinger Escape Plan have announced what they are billing as the final Calculating Infinity reunion performances, bringing to a close the celebration of one of the most influential albums in modern heavy music. After reuniting in 2023 with original vocalist Dimitri Minakakis to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking 1999 debut, the band is preparing to perform the album live for the final time.
Ben Weinman, who now performs with Suicidal Tendencies, joined Vulgar Display of Podcast for an in-depth conversation about the band’s enduring legacy, the emotional experience of revisiting Calculating Infinity, and the impact the record continues to have on heavy music more than 25 years after its release.
The Dillinger Escape Plan’s influence on the metal world is difficult to overstate. Widely regarded as one of the architects of modern mathcore, the band forever changed the landscape of extreme music by combining blistering technical precision, unpredictable song structures, jazz-inspired rhythms, hardcore intensity, and fearless experimentation. Their uncompromising approach inspired generations of artists across metalcore, progressive metal, deathcore, hardcore, and experimental music, with countless bands citing Dillinger as a defining influence. Albums like Calculating Infinity, Miss Machine, Ire Works, and One of Us Is the Killer helped redefine what heavy music could sound like while setting a new standard for technical musicianship and explosive live performances.
Reflecting on the end of the reunion run, Weinman and the band shared a heartfelt message with fans:
“This has been an incredible chapter, but we have reached the ending stretch.
The final Calculating Infinity shows in Europe and a single show in London is in a couple of weeks. A few more shows for US will be announced soon, and we are coming to some special places.
Thank you from TDEP
Ben, Liam, Dimitri, Billy, James.”
The farewell run begins with several high-profile European festival appearances before heading to North America this fall. The North American leg includes stops in Philadelphia, Worcester, Baltimore, Portland, Vancouver, Seattle, and St. Petersburg..
With these final performances now on the calendar, fans have one last opportunity to experience a record that helped reshape heavy music and cemented The Dillinger Escape Plan as one of the most influential and fearless bands of the past three decades.
